A flurry of projects ending and beginning

Ian has very recently completed two public art projects and is about to begin a third.

Between April and October Ian was artist-in-the-community with the Donegal Chamber Orchestra, which resulted in a 10-minute piece, An tIarthar, performed by the DCO and Spain's Concerto Málaga in Letterkenny's An Grianán Theatre on October 10th.

From September to November Ian was composer-in-residence to the stroke unit of the Adelaide and Meath Hospital in Tallaght, Dublin. A 7-movement piece built around interviews with patients and healthcare workers, Bewitched, was premiered on November 24th by soprano Deirdre Moynihan and members of the Irish Chamber Orchestra.

Ian is now beginning a 1-year public art project in County Mayo, part of Mayo County Council's 'Landmark' public art programme, which will result in a 40-minute work for string quartet and tape to be performed in October 2011 by the ConTempo Quartet.
