Bursary award to write work for tablas and string quartet

Ian has just been awarded an Arts Council of Ireland Bursary in order to work with British tablas player Mohamed Assani. Ian will firstly transcribe for string quartet a tablas improvisation by Mohamed, in order to investigate useful correlations between the two sets of instruments. Once that is complete Ian will write a new work for tablas and string quartet, to be performed by Mohamed and the Callino Quartet in 2009.
